About the ASCII Tree ↔ Commands Converter
This free tool converts a pasted ASCII tree (from this site's tree generator, or from the Unix `tree` command) into a list of `mkdir -p` and `touch` commands ready to paste into a terminal to recreate the folder structure on disk. It also works the other way: paste mkdir/touch commands to generate the matching ASCII tree.
FAQ
- Are the generated commands executed automatically?
- No. The tool only generates text to copy; you paste and run the commands yourself in your terminal, after reviewing them.
- Which ASCII tree formats are supported?
- Both unicode (├── └── │) and ascii (|-- `-- |) connector styles are detected automatically, even mixed within the same pasted text.
- What happens if a path contains '..' or starts with '/'?
- The tool still generates it, but adds a visible warning since such a path could escape the target folder — review it before running the command.
